Dianthus, also known as Pinks, is a genus of about 300 flowering plants in Caryophyllaceae. Dianthus smells like cinnamon and clove. It is native mainly to Europe and Asia, with a few species in North Africa and southern Africa.
It is a major winter flowering plant, but it can bloom throughout the year with little extra care. Dianthus plants emphasize impressive bluish-grey foliage that glares in its own right when the plants are not in bloom. The foliage is thin, even grass-like, and plants may present a mounded appearance.
Dianthus provides gardens and balconies with unique flair, and there are numerous fascinating and powerful colors, which give every garden and balcony an incomparable freshness.
