Starfish Plant is the common name of Huernia zebrina. This dwarf soft-stemmed fleshy plant gives rise to the attractive bright yellow mottled flowers. Each stem reaches over 15 cm in height. The petal edge of Huernia zebrina carries innumerable hairs vibrating with the slightest air movement. Additionally, its flowers arise in late summer or autumn.
The plant can readily produce seeds after the carpels develop pairs of long cylindrical horn-shaped fruits having numerous seeds. They also need to be contained when they get ripened. Because the time when the fruit opens, it starts liberating a cloud of flying seed having a white feathery cotton fluff. Plants being luscious are usually enhanced by cuttings. Moreover, this Starfish plant should be kept dry for a week once they are taken off.
