The plant is more famous among the landscapers. Japanese Cheesewood is an evergreen shrub that can reach 10 m tall. Also, it can be trimmed to make a hedge.

The plant is leathery, hairless, and darker on the upper surfaces. The inflorescence is a cluster of fragrant flowers occurring at the ends of the branches. The shrub is a drought-tolerant species and fairly hardy landscaping plant.
