Heuchera

Heuchera also known as coral bells is a genus of mostly annual plants in the Saxifragaceae family, all of which are native to North America. Alumroot and coral bells are common names. Heuchera lobbed palmally leaves and a dense woody rootstock on long petals. The small flowers are rich in nectar and are a good source of food. When grown in partial shade, they are most colourful (approximately 4 hours of direct sunlight daily).

Plants with pale leaf colours, such as cartridge or silver, require more sun exposure protection than plants with dark purple or maroon tones. Plants can also withstand more sun in cooler climates when adequate moisture is provided. In humus-rich, well-drained soil which remains slightly moist, coral bells will grow the best plant. Stop planting in damp and soggy soil that can contribute to coronary redness.

Modify thick garden soil with compost to enhance soil drainage and aeration. Remove the floral stalks at the base after flowering. This enables new leaf development to increase energy and often encourages repeated growth. In large clusters build an enticing evergreen surface and show the colour of the leaf on a larger scale. The visibility of flower displays is also enhanced by mass plantations. Creating texture appeal, by combining them with lacquered, shade-loving plants like ferns and astilbs, contrasting them.
